As part of our cybersecurity research in the public interest, MITRE has a long history of developing standards and tools used by the broad cybersecurity community, such as STIX™, TAXII™, and CVE®. Our ATT&CK® framework, which provides a free online knowledge base of cyber adversary behavior, is used worldwide.
ATT&CK helped usher in the concept of threat-informed defense, which uses a deep understanding of adversary tradecraft and technology to protect against, detect, and mitigate cyber attacks. In 2019, MITRE Engenuity, our technical foundation, launched the Center for Threat-Informed Defense™ to expand our collaboration with the private sector, releasing our research findings for cyber defenders everywhere to use.
